#BTv#TKR Preview: Tridents Look to maintain momentum by derailing Trinbago Knight Riders
Sat, 2nd, Sep 2017
Barbados Tridents notched up a win against St Lucia Stars in their previous outing at Kensington Oval. Riding on a century from Dwayne Smith, the 2014 CPL champions have made a comeback of sorts into the CPL, but the fight is not over yet as the Bajan Boys have to maintain the momentum and win their last two matches to have a chance in the top four.
Facing them will be table topper Trinbago Knight Riders. The Shahrukh Khan owned team have had a perfect season so far with just one loss and have already become the first team to qualify for the final four.
The last time these two teams met, Tridents had batted first and set a target of 153 for the Knight Riders to chase. Pakistan International Shoaib Malik had starred with a half century. Despite some fight back from the Tridents bowlers, Sunil Narine led the TKR side to 2 wickets win in Port of Spain.
Skipper Kieron Pollard will have a worry or two about his middle order. Kiwi Kane Williamson and Irish Eoin Morgan are yet to settle in well and play a formidable knock for the team. Opener Dwayne Smith came out all guns blazing and scored his second century of the season. A lot will ride on him for Tridents to set a competitive total.
Youngster Nicholas Pooran who was promoted to open the batting performed his job by scoring a quick fire 32, but the youngster would definitely need to control his shot selection and try and stay longer in the middle.
In the bowling unit Wahab Riaz was fantastic in their previous outing, the Pakistani pacer claimed one wicket and went onto contain the run scoring spree by effecting 12 dot balls. But pacers Ravi Rampaul and Wayne Parnell were quite expensive in the last match, forcing skipper Kieron Pollard to take up the ball.
With one win at home in their pocket, the Robin Singh coached side will get the backing from their home crowd to go all out against TKR and try and book their spot in the semis.
